Finished OAL... Finally!

And in the nick of time!

Man! I should be calling this the procrastination project! For awhile there, I was patting myself on the back, telling myself it was okay not to finish. After all, it's only failure, prizes and a bit of pride at stake... ... ...

But it all came together in the end and I finished er' up! (Thank God!)

I pretty much finished my Myrna sweater, except for buttons, before the dress was even started, which was a surprise. Apparently, when the weather gets hot, I don't sew. When I actually got down to it, the dress came together pretty fast. This was my first time making the Cami by Pauline Alice and my first time sewing an undercollar. (Which in the moment seemed like a pretty big deal.) All in all I enjoyed sewing this dress even with the much dreaded button holes.

I went up in the blouse size to have more ease and it turned out pretty comfy. Unfortunately, I didn't order enough fabric and had to make a slimmer skirt but, I think it is a livable mistake. This dress is in much need of a belt though. What do you think, maybe green or yellow? Where do you guys find your belts?

I also lined the skirt with a buttery yellow cotton. Both the lemon and the solid came from Fabric.com, which I now can't seem to find on their site to provide a link. It is called Citrus Tree by Michael Miller Fabrics if you're wondering.

I had a bit of a disappointment in the fabric though, besides not ordering enough. It arrived with holes in it, holes I didn't see until after washing/drying it, and in the mix of ironing.

I get a lot of fabric from the thrift store so I know the importance of checking for damage, but to buy new fabric and FIND holes, well, it was a bit of a surprise. I've ordered from Fabric.com before with no problem so I hope this was just a fluke.

To sum this project up, I learned a lot, and not just about the negative effects of procrastination! But also about my creative process when it comes to sewing outfits. I learned that I'm a spur of the moment girl. Fly by the seat of my pants type of sewist. Plan things!?! Heck I don't. Just see a pretty fabric or an affordable yarn and go to town. Coordinate a whole outfit (gasp) never done it before now!

Well... .... ... things are going to change I tell ya! I enjoyed having a bit more going on here, a game plan in place. This project made me realize just how much I sew stuff just because I can, not because I need it or will even really wear it.

I'm looking forward to some cool stuff happening in the near future because of this realization. For one, some PLANNED Archer shirts. I know, I know, dreaded button holes! But I'm no sissy.

Hope to see a lot more finished OAL's out there, maybe yours?
